            About Us

            Picture
Dala Development Program is a faith-based, grassroots development organization working to improve livelihoods in Upper Nyakach, Kenya.

Our strategy is to organize and mobilize the community's own creativity in order to overcome the challenges they face, using the resources available to them.

Our mission is to enable households to be economically stable, food secure, better educated, healthier, safer, and in loving relationship with one another, the environment, and God.

After working in a variety of contexts in different areas of Kenya, we have come to the following conclusions regarding development work.
            1. The work must be sustainable, nothing that enables dependency. No pity-driven hand outs that belittle the community or their ability to do things for themselves.
            2. All work must be proactive and not reactive; working with the cause and not the effect.
            3. Programs must be implemented on the Asset Based Community Development (ABCD) model, with meaningful relationships as the means of community building.
            4. And most importantly, we acknowledge that God is the one who transforms people, situations, and communities to become the best of what He intended them to be, as we fulfill the roles he has given us.
In February of 2008, Dala Development Program was founded. Dala's works with community members in Konden'ge village near Sondu, one hour from Kisumu Town. This rural area, with its lack of industry, is located in a province that has received little government attention. We saw the need, we identified the potential, we felt an urgency, and we responded.
Through Dala's efforts, the village of Sondu has appointed representatives that form a committee. The committee is broken down into sub-committees (five--one for each program) to brainstorm and carry out ideas on programs. The staff members' main role is mainly catalytic, encouraging the committee to identify their strengths and to do things as strategically as possible.

We love the work we do and thank God for putting us there.
